Containerships has added Riga to its regular weekly call operations between Rotterdam, Teesport and various Baltic ports

The Baltic/North Sea short sea operator, majority-owned by Eimskip, is calling at Riga Universal Terminal with a 1000 TEU vessel that links the Latvian port with Rotterdam and Teesport. It plans to introduce a second weekly call as soon as possible.

“By adding Riga Containerships now offer the best shortsea service to or from the Baltic States as we now have four calls a week at Klaipeda and will soon have two calls a week at Riga,” said Martin Dale, Containersips’ commercial director for the Baltics and Poland.

“Services are not limited to just Teesport and Rotterdam – other ports served are Ghent, Tilbury and Hamburg. Riga is a significant hub for transit cargoes into Central Asia, but equally important Riga is the very centre of the Baltic States and a consumer centre in its own right.

“By calling at Riga Universal Terminal, where vehicle turn round time is less than 30 minutes, Containerships will gain competitiveness for local collections and deliveries for the Latvian and Estonian markets.”

Containerships adds that including Riga enlarges the range of possibility for transit deliveries into the Russia market. The line already offers Russian connections via Saint Petersburg, Helsinki and Klaipeda by road or railway.
