The Victorian Government and Melbourne Port Corporation (MPC) have returned their attention to a project that was elbowed aside for the more glamorous Westgate Container Terminal plan, now indefinitely suspended (see WorldCargo News May 2002 p1), with a revised proposal for a Victoria Dock distripark.

The Victorian Government has abandoned Melbourne’s proposed Westgate Container Terminal project after all four interested parties declined to proceed to the “proof of intent” stage.

As expected, international names Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH), ICTSI and Stevedoring Services of America (SSA) head the shortlist of prospective builders/operators of Melbourne’s Westgate International Container Terminal, announced late last month by the Victorian Government and the Melbourne Port Corporation (MPC).
