We regret to report the death of Ing Jelis Verschoof, former chief engineer and technical director of Dutch crane maker Nelcon, who passed away peacefully in his sleep last month at the age of 78.

Like Hans Tax, who died in 2000 at the age of 79, Jelis Verschoof was a pioneer of modern container gantry crane design and his opinions and views were sought all over the world by crane makers and operators.
