The Victorian government has announced a A$10 mill budget package to progress the next stage of investigations into deepening shipping channels into the port of Melbourne, and guaranteeing rail access to Lascelles Wharf at the port of Geelong.

A$ 5.2 mill has been allocated to detailed studies into channel deepening, although there is still no firm timetable for the project. The government says it remains conditional on the development of sound environmental, technical and financing strategies.
