The Indian government’s plan to corporatise its 11 major ports could be in trouble as all five of the country’s major port and dock worker federations have signalled opposition to it.

In a memorandum, the federations have urged the government not to go ahead with the corporatisation plan on the basis that it would not be in the interest of workers whose wages and jobs may be affected when successor companies take over the ports. Port workers across the country have threatened to go strike to press for their demands.
