India expands foreign port presence with new consortium
NewsIndia is forming a consortium to acquire and develop foreign ports, with IPGL managing operations, IPRCL handling infrastructure, and SDCL overseeing financing.
With further improvements in efficiency and productivity, Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNP) in Mumbai, western India, has begun to attract cargo from overseas ports in the Gulf area and Karachi in Pakistan. JNP Trust chairman Arun Bongirwar said that the port would further increase its productivity and augment its facilities to meet the growing demands of international shippers.
