Japan relaxes tank container rules

The Japanese Fire Defence Agency is to suspend a requirement stipulating that tank containers carrying flammable liquids must be individually approved when arriving at the country’s ports.

However, the prior notification requirement for such shipments will remain. Under this provision it is necessary to telefax the appropriate authority at the Japanese discharge port in advance of arrival to confirm that the tank container concerned is fully approved under the provisions of the IMDG Code for the substance being carried.
