IR hikes freight rates

The Indian Railways (IR) budget for 2001-2002, presented by Railway Minister Ms Mamata Bannerjee, has proposed a 2-3 per cent hike in freight rates but failed to incorporate measures to push reforms in the railways. The new rates will be effective April 1.
