South Africa’s Minister for Public Enterprises, Jeff Radebe, has confirmed an immediate start for a major redesign of the port of Durban.

The project will be the first major development at the port since 1977.

According to officials at port operator Portnet, the company’s R1.345 bill (US$171 mill) commitment confirms the port’s status as the premier container handling facility in Africa.
