This is the second order in two years for 30ft palletwide tipping bulk containers from the Italian container and swap body builder

Italy-based intermodal rail operator Ambrogio Trasporti SpA has taken delivery of 50 x 45ft high cube palletwide open top containers built by Sicom SpA in Cherasco. The containers will be operated on behalf of Sider-logistics, to transport steel coils between Italy and Germany.

The European container manufacturing industry remains in retreat, as increased business migrates eastwards into China. However, it is still producing some specialised types, including swap bodies and pallet-wide equipment.

Europe’s container manufacturing industry faces increasingly tough times as it continues to grapple with high production costs, lack of volume orders and relentless Chinese competition.

Intermodal Resource plc, which was formed earlier this year as a holding company for swap body and chassis lessor Axis Intermodal and UK-based road trailer rental company Trailerent, made its debut on the AIM Market of the London Stock Exchange last month.

Not content with dominating the dry freight, reefer and, most recently, tank container markets, China International Marine Containers (CIMC) has taken steps to secure a lead position in the collapsible flatrack sector too.
