KiwiRail to remain an SOE

Following a review, the Government of New Zealand has determined that KiwiRail, its national rail freight and ferry operator, is to remain a State-Owned Enterprise (SOE). KiwiRail owns and operates 3,700 km of rail track and moves some 18 Mtpa of freight. It also operates the interisland
ro-pax ferry service between the North and South Islands and commuter rail services in Auckland and Wellington.
