Boost for inland waterways
There is a mood of optimism in Europe’s inland ports. Interest in the waterways is increasing,due to the gradual breakdown of JIT-based logistics because of overreliance on road transport. This unimodal approach no longer works efficiently because of chronic traffic congestion and environmental degradation, particularly in the “Blue Banana” area through the north west Continent/northern Italy.
