Inland rail can work down under – but not just yet
In findings eerily reminiscent of studies that preceded the construction of the Adelaide-Darwin rail link (recently acquired from the receivers of FreightLink by Genesee & Wyoming of the US), an evaluation of Australia’s proposed east coast inland rail link has concluded that the project is unlikely to be a commercial success – but can be justified on economic grounds.
