Kazakhstan plans new China-Russia transit route
NewsKazakhstan is developing a new trade route from China to Russia via the Irtysh River, with a port and railway planned, aiming for completion by 2026.
On 14 March a new experimental “accelerated” container train left the railway station of Nakhodka-Vostochny in the Russian Far East for Moscow, as part of Russian Railways (RZD)’s “Trans-Sib for Seven Days” project.
To enable the train to cover the 9361km long route three days quicker than by regular service, the train’s operator, RZD’s affiliate TransContainer, is synchronising the train’s layovers for changing locomotives and drivers as well as stops for railcar inspections, and operating at speeds to achieve 1400 km a day.
