BNSF bags Rwandan rail link contract

The government of Tanzania has announced that construction of a railway from Rwanda to Dar es Salaam will begin later this year. The Tanzanian port is already the main entrepôt for Rwanda and other landlocked states in the region, but the Tanzanian rail network does not yet stretch across the border into Rwanda and freight has to be transported via poorly maintained roads. A feasibility study funded by African Development Bank last year recommended that the line be developed.
