From a geographical perspective, Latvian ports are widely reckoned to offer the best rail gate in the Baltic for Moscow and a new container train service has just been started up between the Port of Riga’s existing container terminal (Baltic Container Terminal) and the Russian capital’s Kuntsevo-2 railfreight station, aimed at Chinese origin cargoes transhipped over Riga from Northwest Continent. At the moment there is no westbound cargo booked (only EC returns are anticipated).
