New terminal for Venlo

News-in-print

Venlo Trade Port, the consortium of ECT, logistics service provider Seacon and the Dutch municipality of Venlo, which operates the existing Venlo rail/road inter-modal terminal, has signed a contract for the construction of an adjacent inland shipping terminal. The facility is slated to be operational early next year.

Venlo is a key intermodal railhead for Rotterdam, strategically close to the border with Germany. There are currently 12 train pairs/ week between Venlo and the Maasvlakte and another three over the Waalhaven. Traffic increased 26 per cent last year to 67,000 containers (2400 TEU/week) and is forecast to grow to 110,000 containers/ year by 2010.
