Landlocked Nepal’s rail-connected inland clearance depot (ICD) at Sirsiya (Birgunj) is now fully operational as a result of agreement finally being reached with India on rail access. As previously reported, the rail link is a 5.4 km long spur from the border town of Raxaul and expected reduction in transit cost is in the region of 35-40 per cent, or US$1.7 mill/year.
