ACCC green light for PN/FA deal

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has cleared Pacific National (PN)’s takeover of Freight Australia (FA) but an increasingly bitter dispute with the Victorian government could still derail the deal.

The ACCC gave the go-ahead after accepting court-enforceable undertakings from PN. Chairman Graeme Samuel said that, inter alia, the ACCC was concerned that the acquisition may make it more dif-ficult for potential entrants to find rail terminal space in Melbourne.
