Kazakhstan plans new China-Russia transit route
NewsKazakhstan is developing a new trade route from China to Russia via the Irtysh River, with a port and railway planned, aiming for completion by 2026.
Arkhangelsk-based Northern Shipping Company (NOSCO) has started up a dedicated Arkhangelsk- Moscow container train, together with the Commercial Seaport of Arkhangelsk and Russian Railways. Transit time (one way) is slated at 2-3 days, compared to 7-8 days for standard freight trains. Capacity is understood to be 42 x 60ft flats (126 TEU) and frequency is two pairs/month, although NOSCO plans to double frequency to weekly.
