In a PR exercise, Lafarge is holding three “open days” at its Westbury cement works this month, so local residents can check out alternative fuel burining (waste tyres) and a static display of some piggyback tanktrailers and Mega-3 wagons – the most heavily- backed of the SRA’s prize schemes.

A new design for a topliftable piggyback trailer, with a mgw of 38 tonnes (tri-axle), has been launched by UK-based Intermo Ltd. The 45ft trailer is lifted and secured to the wagon at 40ft centres. The running gear is fitted with low profile 215/75 R17.5 tyres, which are now standard throughout Europe for maxi-cube trailers used in long haul.
