PR at the double

Pakistan Railways (PR) has launched an ambitious plan to replace the 1760 km track between Karachi and Peshawar, the staging post for Afghanistan (via the Khyber Pass) and China’s far west, in order to achieve faster, more competitive transit speeds and strengthen the appeal of Karachi/Qasim as transit gateways. Even more ambitiously it wants to double the track along its entire length over the next few years and is seeking foreign backing.
