Private rail under pressure

A number of Australia’s small private rail operators are believed to be up for sale or facing closure as ramifications of the formation of Pacific National begin to sink in. Already, Junee, NSW-based Austrac has “suspended'” scheduled services and retreated to operations and maintenance activities after saying the expected benefits of the sale of FreightCorp were taking longer than expected to emerge.
