Finnish paper makers are continually exploring ways and means of increasing transport efficiency between the mills and the export terminals to reduce the number of paper reel handlings and thereby damage and costs. UPM-Kymmene is testing an automated rail wagon loading and discharging system between its Kajaani mill and its Rauma Stevedoring terminal. Kajaani is in central Finland, about 700 kms from Rauma.
