Canada puts tariffs on Chinese EVs, steel imports
NewsGovernment imposes 100% tariff on EVs and 25% tariff on some steel products from China.
Vancouver, in western Canada, has become the latest in a growing number of North American containerports to deploy the VACIS (Vehicle and Cargo Inspection System) developed by Science Applications International Corp (SAIC) of the US.
This device is distinct from the majority of established container surveillance equipment, as it uses low-level “non-intrusive” gamma ray scanning, rather than X-rays. The latest (Version II) design comprises a truck-mounted generator, with a receiver mounted on the opposite hydraulic arm. The arm forms a bridge that straddles the container undergoing inspection. When viewing, the VACIS II can either remain stationary (with the container driven through on a chassis) or can itself be rolled over the entire length of the stationary container.
