Construction of Seine-Nord Europe Canal kicks into gear
NewsConstruction on the Seine-Nord Europe Canal, a 107-kilometre wide-gauge waterway connecting Compiègne to Aubencheul-au-Bac, is accelerating.
The rail intermodal service between Le Havre and Strasbourg is being upgraded as a result of increasing traffic. In the first five months of this year, volume reached 5000 TEU – 46 per cent up on the first six months of 2000.
The service was first introduced by Le Havre Shuttles (LHS) and CNC in June 1999. Up to now, it has operated through the Villeneuve-St Georges train sorting centre south of Paris. However, as of last month it has become a genuine shuttle train service, operating directly between the Port of Le Havre and Strasbourg three times/week each way.
