Depressed tank market hits Stolt

Pricing competition, weak utilisation and empty repositioning costs in the tank container sector all had a negative impact on the first quarter results for the Stolt-Nielsen Transportation Group (SNTG).

Although tank container shipments were up 10 per cent from the comparable quarter a year ago, the current parlous market helped drive down income from tank container operations for the first quarter of 2001 to US$2.7 mill from US$4.9 mill in the first quarter of 2000.
