Tideworks for Lafito

Tideworks Technology will supply the TOS for a new multi-purpose terminal in Haiti.

In May Port Lafito, a subsidiary of GB Group, announced it had taken a significant step towards its vision to build Haiti’s first modern container port by reaching a strategic alliance with SSA Marine to mange a private port facility. Port Lafito is building a greenfield port on 300 hectares of private land 19km outside of Port-au-Prince that will eventually have four container berths and a logistics park.

SSA Marine sister company Tideworks Technology has now announced it has been selected by GB Group to supply the TOS. “We are very excited about this project, which will have significant economic impact on Haiti and the region,” said Pierre Liautaud, project manager for Port Lafito. “We knew we would need a comprehensive TOS solution to help us manage what will be Haiti’s first modern container terminal, and we couldn’t be happier with our selection of Tideworks. Its solutions fully map to our envisioned operations and will provide us with the tools we need to be productive and efficient. We look forward to working with their team.”

The project includes Tideworks’ core Mainsail Vanguard TOS, Forecast web portal, Spinnaker planning management system and Traffic Control equipment dispatch module. The TOS will also manage an off-dock container yard. Tideworks will supply all required installation, configuration and training services, as well as post go-live support 24/7 and remote infrastructure support.

“The importance of this port project for a nation still recovering from the devastating effects of the 2010 earthquake cannot be overstated,” said Michael Schwank, president of Tideworks Technology. “We are pleased to play a part in helping Port Lafito become an efficient, modern cargo handling facility and thrilled to be working with the great folks at GB Group.” Implementation is scheduled for completion in Q1 2015, when the port expects to start commercial operations.
