Finland – London short sea run inaugurated
NewsFinnlines is set to launch a new short sea freight service this month (Sept ’24) from Finland to Peel Ports London Medway and other destinations around Europe
Fenix LLC, the private developer of the new multipurpose port of Bronka, at Lomonosov near St Petersburg in Russia has placed several orders for its new terminal, which will have a capacity of 1.45M TEU and 260,000 ro-ro units in its first phase.
Equipment includes a unique mobile harbour crane from Liebherr, designated LHM 800, with an unheard of under-hook lift capacity in 2-winch/4-rope configuration of 302t! Fenix has also signed a contract, reported to be worth US$40M for four Liebherr STS container gantry cranes capable of working ships in the 8,000 TEU range with an 18-wide deck stow. Contracts for other yard equipment and the TOS have now been disclosed.
A second contract worth US$25M is understood to have been signed with Konecranes for 10 one-over-five RTGs with 50t SWL. The RTGs will be fed by 25 Terberg YT222 tractors pulling 25 Novatech trailers. All this equipment is due for delivery through July-September, in time for start up of phase 1 of MMPK Bronka.
Konecranes is also supplying two SMV 4545TCX5 reach stackers (rail stackers), one for container and one for the ro-ro terminal of MSCC Bronka. These will be equipped with retractable jacks and elevating cabin for second row rail operations. “Such equipment will assure the maximal efficiency of flatcars handling, and consequently speed up the works on MSCC Bronka’s railway front, and reduce flatcars turnaround time in the Russian Railways system,” Fenix stated.
Fenix also just ordered two one-over-two diesel-electric Terex Noell straddle carriers, for operation at the customs inspection yard, which is slated for 24/7 operations. The machines are due for delivery this August, a month or so before phase 1 opens. They have a 50t SWL in twin-20 mode and will be equipped with Stinis spreaders.
Finally, Fenix has announced that it has selected the SOLVO TOS, with implementation and integration to be supported by HPC Hamburg Port Consulting GmbH. “Integration of the local Russian solution developed and provided by SOLVO Ltd, together with proven experience of HPC on similar successful projects in many countries in Europe and worldwide, will allow us to offer a new quality level regarding the port services to cargo owners and shipping lines,” said Fenix.
