Fastship Inc has announced an agreement with Conrail to buy part of its railyard and dormant shipping terminal in the Port Richmond area of Philadelphia. The sale still has to be approved by the CSX/NS Board of Conrail, but FastShip hopes to begin construction of a US$125 mill terminal next year, for completion in 2004.

This is the latest estimated start date for the high speed Philadelphia-Cherbourg shipping service. The project has slipped several times due to financing delays and other problems. As previously reported, the Fastship service is aimed at providing a maximum 7-day overall transit time between the US midwest and inland European destinationsa.
