Siemens Drive Technologies Division (SDT), based in Erlangen, Germany, has developed a technique for active damping using a linear motor with “intelligent” motion. The assembly is mounted on the boom girder and a weight is attached, but it is much lighter and more effective than a conventional passive damper.
