SAPO RTGs confirmed

Kalmar has confirmed speculation in WorldCargo News (March 2006, p4) that it has an order for 12 RTGs from SAPO for the Pier 1 container terminal project in Durban. As noted, this is a breakthrough order as up to now SAPO has used a straddle carrier direct operation at all its container terminals. It is continuing with this in Durban and elsewhere and is, indeed, renewing and increasing its fleet numbers with Kalmar. But Pier I has a restricted footprint and SAPO needs to stack higher.
