Noell has applied for a patent for a straddle carrier with a telescoping mechanism for raising and lowering the height of the lifting frame, as shown below. The patent envisages a machine that can be raised from 1 over 0 to 1 over 4. This would enable higher travelling speeds with the frame lowered, but have the flexibility of a high stacking system.
