New shuttle straddle

Belotti Handling SpA is working on the prototype of a low-height (1 over 0) “Shuttle” straddle carrier which, as with the concept already being developed by Kalmar for Hessenatie, is aimed at speeding up transfers between quay and stack because of the ability to long-travel faster more safely and the shorter “end condition” time associate with a much shorter hoist and lower height.

As previously reported in WorldCargo News, the concept is being examined by several operators, including the idea of using shuttle machines in conjunction with 4-high straddle carriers in the stacks (Goteborgs Hamn AB) and to shuttle between the quay and automated RMG or bridge crane stacks (Euromax Rotterdam and Hutchison Bathside Bay)…
