There seems little doubt that suppliers of heavy front loaders have enjoyed buoyant sales in 2000 – not just reach stackers but also dedicated container handling mast trucks and general purpose FLTs.

To some extent the market for medium/heavy FLTs has been distorted by exceptional orders with, for example, both Kalmar and Fantuzzi-Reggiane receiving multiple orders from the UN. Nonetheless it is clear that the heavy FLT has made something of a “comeback” in the steve-doring sector even though demand for reach stackers remains strong. The question remains whether demand levels can be sustained during 2001, as there are early signs of a slowdown.
