New President for leading maritime NPO; new Board member for Swedish Shipbrokers; German inland ports and shipping associations move closer; North Sea Port reorganizes management structure in search for more agility

After what is described as a comprehensive selection progress, the Board of Lloyd’s Register has chosen Nick Brown (left) to succeed Alister Marsh as CEO with effect from January 1st 2021. Marsh will retire from the post at the end of 2020 and will take up some non-executive and advisory roles with LR, which will shortly commence a search for an appointee to replace Brown in his current position as Director, Marine & Offshore.

 

London, UK: The newly elected President of The Nautical Institute is Jillian Carson-Jackson, who manages The Nautical Institute South East Australia branch.  

 

The Association of public German inland ports (BÖB Bundesverband Öffentlicher Binnenhäfen) has found a successor for Boris Kluge who died suddenly a few weeks ago. Marcel Lohbeck, Managing Director of the Association of European Inland Shipping and Waterways (VBW Verein für europäische Binnenschiffahrt und Wasserstrassen  VBW ) will be  the new Managing Director of BÖB. The two organisations will share not only the managing director but also the offices in Berlin and Duisburg. They will remain independent, but complement each other, it was stated.

Anna-Karin Ekman, Managing Director of the ship broker firm of Bror Andren AB in Karlstadt, has been appointed to the Board of the Swedish Shipbrokers’ Association (Sveriges Skeppsmäklereförening). Mrs Ekman is also a member of two organizations reporting to the Swedish Maritime Administration (Sjöfartsverket):  the digitalistion reference group; and the pilotage group.

 

North Sea Port, the binational grouping of Zeeland Seaports (ZSP) and the Port of Ghent, is simplifying its management structure, with a view to being more responsive. With one CEO, Jan Lagasse (the former director of ZSP), leaving, the company will be managed solely by the other CEO, Daan Schalck. The following managers have been apponted: Dick Engelhardt, Chief Development & Nautical Operations Officer; Sofie Monteyne, Chief Financial Officer; and Peter Van Parys, COO.

 

Associated British Ports (ABP) has appointed Andy Reay to lead the development of ABP’s Offshore Wind solutions. Reay has over 30 years’ experience of the offshore wind industry and will manage the Greenport Hull jv with Siemens and Gamesea, and the operations and maintenance facilities in Grimsby, Barrow and Lowestoft. He takes up the post in October.

 

Rotterdam, Netherlands: Rail transport and logistics company LTE Netherlands, part of Austria-based LTE Group, has appointed Wim Visser, a former cargo manager with DB Cargo in Germany, general manager of DB Cargo Netherlands and  the founder of Rail Interim BV, to its management team.
