DFDS scuppers Dover-Calais space charter after P&O finds new partner
NewsDFDS has told the market that they will be sailing solo on the busy Dover-Calais route, as their space charter agreement with P&O Ferries expires at the end of August.

DFDS Logistics has taken 100% of Swedish road transport provider Italcargo Sweden AB. The company was established in 1998 for the specific purpose of providng accompanied trunk haul transport between Sweden and Italy, including FTL, LTL and express loads. It operates a fleet of arounf 50 trailers and sub-contracts haulage to third party drivers. Last year it reported revenue of SEK65M (US$7.2M).
DFDS says the takeover complements and further strengthens its existing position in the Sweden-Italy trade and it expects to achieve a 10% annual return on its investment.
Niklas Andersson, director of DFDS' Swedish logistics division, said: “The acquisition of Italcargo expands our existing logistics services between Sweden and Italy, particularly enhancing our part load and premium services.”
In Italy Italcargo Sweden works with forwarded Franco Vago. It is not known whether this approach to the market will be continued by DFDS.
