Universal Logistics adds Parsec
NewsUniversal Logistics Holdings, Inc. has entered the rail terminal services market by acquiring the Parsec group of companies.
UK-based international logistics and supply chain company Suttons Group has taken delivery of a fleet of new, food grade, 20ft tank containers. The containers have gone into operation serving lanes between North America and Europe.
Steve Lonsdale, regional director for Suttons Americas, said: “Suttons is well known for its safety record and high standards of service, which makes the food and beverage sector a natural market for us. Our approach to safety, compliance, product quality and security are all essential attributes required for food and beverage transit, and we are able to complement that ability with our knowledge and experience of intermodal bulk logistics and supply chain.”
Suttons said it is seeing an increase in the amount of food grade products transported in tank containers, which offer more supply chain flexibility, compared with traditional transport methods.
The new 20ft tank containers were built in China by Singamas, and are the latest addition to Suttons’ global fleet of more than 6,000 tank containers. The new tanks are fitted with a telemetry system that has sensors to detect temperature and impact damage during loading and unloading, as well as GPS for location data. This data is integrated with Suttons’ operating system, to provide updates on the status of the tank and the load, in cluding whether a tank container is on track to meet its intended load and delivery dates.
