Spain-based Urbaser (Dragados) has said it will invest US$10 mill in the next three years at its Iquique Terminal Internacional (ITI) concession in the Port of Iquique, Chile, with a view to being able to receive ships up to 4500 TEU from mid-2005 onwards.
This requires extension of the berth and deepening alongside. At present the upper limit for ships calling Iquique is 2500 TEU.
ITI accounts for half of Iquique’s throughput and, according to managing director Claudio Pommiez, is more than twice as productive as the quays still in state hands.
