HMM collaborates with Hellmann on Green Sailing Service
News“This is the path forward for the global container shipping industry to make a meaningful impact and to enable customers to decarbonize their supply chains.”
Rail Solutions International, part of Germany-based Hellmann Worldwide Logistics, has extended its Europe-Asia service portfolio with a new “garment train” from Vietnam.
Container loads of hanging garments are shipped from Vietnam to the Port of Lianyungang and consigned to rail. The train is moved over the Khorgos ‘gauge break’ station at the Sino-Kazakh border and then to the Georgian Port of Poti, for onward shipment by sea to Istanbul and thence to destinations in South East Europe.
Rail journey time between Lianyungang and Poti is said to be just 14 days, with another three days to reach Istanbul. Hellmann sees great potential for this wice-weekly rail service as it costs around 50% of the cost by air freight, but is much faster than all-water shipping from Vietnam.
