Although final decisions will not be taken until later this year, it seems almost certain that Euromax Terminal, the new 50:50 ECT/P&O Nedlloyd (P&ONL) joint venture in Rotterdam slated to open in early 2004, will use low height, manned straddle carriers to shuttle between the quayside cranes and the ship end of stacks operated by 3- or 4-high stacking automated stacking cranes (ASCs) aligned transversally with the quay.
