Arkas Line adds three more ships
NewsThe pre-owned, German-built container ships have been acquired from Norwegian regional operator MPC Container Ships ASA
Izmir-based Arkas Line has upped its presence in the eastern Mediterranean liner shipping sector with a new ship and deploying its own tonnage in a jointly operated string. The 2,837 TEU EMMA A, its largest ship to date, has begun operating in the line’s core Turkey-Levant service. This string calls at Istanbul (Marport), Izmir, Gemlik, Alexandria, Port Said, Beirut, Mersin and returns to Istanbul.
In other moves, Arkas became a vessel provider in a link between Turkey and the Adriatic after its partner, Sermar, withdrew a ship from the fortnightly service calling at Koper, Venice, Ravenna, Ancona, Istanbul, Evyap and Mersin. Since 1 October, Arkas has deployed the 976 TEU HORACE A.
Meanwhile, Arkas is continuing to invest in new tonnage with the owner seeing ships in the 2,500 to 3,000 TEU size range as being very viable in the intra-Mediterranean trades. Four 2,500 vessels are on order from the Zhejiang Ouhua Shipbuilding facility in China.
