MSC container ship linked to oil spill in South Africa
NewsAn investigation is underway into an oil spill in Algoa Bay, South Africa, with initial reports linking the spill to MSC Apollo, a 6,500 TEU container ship operated by MSC.
South African port operator Transnet Port Terminals (ex-SAPO) plans to convert container handling at Cape Town from straddle carriers to RTGs, as part of a modernisation and expansion plan. A total of 32 RTGs will be purchased, along with at least two new (Liebherr) ship-to-shore cranes. Other changes include the conversion of the marshalling yard into a staging area and the provision of more reefer points (from 400 to 810), while the size of the CY will also be increased.
