Carriers invoke Force Majeure as ships begin to pile up off East and Gulf coasts
NewsContainer shipping companies, including CMA CGM, Ocean Network Express (ONE), and COSCO, are invoking force majeure due to the impacts of ongoing ILA strike.
Several new orders for large roro ships have been placed in the past 1-2 months. In March CMA CGM placed an order worth €116.5B with Hyundai Mipo Dockyard for new con-ros for its affiliate Delmas, for delivery in the second half of 2011. The new ships, with a capacity for 600 cars and a nominal container intake of 1700 TEU, will replace the four owned con-ros deployed in Delmas’ African Line. These have a nominal container intake of 1300 TEU and are now more than 25 years old.
