Ammonia-powered tug Sakigake joins NYK Line’s fleet
NewsSakigake embarks on a new chapter with its transformation into the “world’s first ammonia-powered tugboat”.
Tokyo-based Yusen Logistics (YL), part of the NYK group, is strengthening its activities in Turkey through a strategic alliance with Turkey’s İnci Logistics.
While YL has an expanding global network, Turkey has a burgeoning automotive industry, a sector that is very important to YL’s business. For İnci, an alliance with YL gives it access to a global platform, including the use of YL’s general agencies and overseas office network.
Perihan İnci, president of İnci Holding, said: “This collaboration reflects increasing Turkish foreign trade and the need for competitive solutions for export traffic to a growing number of countries, as well as the needs of global brands in the Turkish domestic market.
“We are now in a position to accelerate our development in the sector, as Yusen is already active in countries where there is a concentration of Turkish foreign trade, serving leading global brands.”
The size of the Turkish logistics market is already significant, with the İnci executive saying that it was currently worth US$80B-100B and would rise to US$108B-140B by 2017. Ian Veitch, managing director of YL Europe, said: “YL has ambitious growth plans for Turkish markets where we see significant opportunity in both the short and long term, in terms of both domestic and international solutions. I am delighted to endorse this partnership and we look forward to working with İnci Logistics to increase activity in this region.
