Mediation proposal falls through, leaving Port of Montreal labour dispute unresolved

The Montreal Port Authority will receive C$ 12.5m from the Canadian government to enhance grain containerisation, increasing storage capacity by 20%.

The overtime refusal is aimed at further intensifying the labour standoff as talks between the union and the Maritime Employers Association (MEA) remain unresolved.

Longshoremen are back on the docks at US east and gulf coast ports, but the ILA has not contractually accepted the negotiated wage increase, and there are still issues to resolve.
