Liège container barge service

News

Danser Group has started a twice weekly barge service linking Liège (Luiken) with Antwerp

The new services are a cooperation between the Dutch Danser group, Liège Container Terminal (LCT) and ECT affiliate European Gateway Service (EGS).

One weekly service shuttles between LCT and Antwerp and the second calls at EGS's terminal at Venlo on the way back to Liège. The barges use the new lock of Klein Ternaaien, which connects the Maas with the Albert Canal.

“The new barge service offers our customers numerous additional transport options," said Paul Zoeter, network manager of EGS. "In combination with the already existing connections, Antwerp-Liège is now effectively a daily service. We are now also able to serve the Venlo region directly from Antwerp, and over Venlo we can also serve the Liège market from Rotterdam. What is more, we use this Venlo-Liège barge service to reposition empty containers cost-effectively.”
