Sany Germany into Sweden

GTS has been appointed dealer for Sany Germany’s reach stackers and heavy lift trucks

"There are in reality two reach stacker suppliers and three heavy fork lift truck suppliers in Sweden. We believe there is room for another with the right price and good quality production and we have found both of these with Sany Germany,"  said Antti Laakso, Managing Director of GTS AB (Göteborgs Truck Service).

GTS has been active in the Swedish heavy handling market for many years, covering ro-ro, general port use and industry with lifting and rolling equipment sales and rentals, second-hand equipment, etc. It has extensive workshop facilities in Gothenburg.

In the past GTS worked with SMV, but latterly has been a sub-dealer for Konecranes. It has also worked with Svetruck on a case by case basis. It started looking for alternatives, whereby it could become a main dealer, about six months ago and investigated the market. The deal with Sany Germany was signed in Bedburg last Friday (21 February).

For Sany Germany, the deal represents another step in its European expansion plans. Appointing GTS, with its long-establised and diverse customer contacts, certainly creates a talking point in the Swedish heavy handling market.

As is well-known, at the moment Sany Germany has only two reach stacker models with CE homologation, the 6m/4531 and 6.5m/4535 machines. However, these make up the lion's share of the market in Sweden and Sany Germany is aiming to cover the full range by the end of 2015.

On the FLT side, the 16-1200 and 30-1200 models will be available in the next few months. Again, there are obvious gaps, but Sany Germany is working on models with other capacities. GTS is also the dealer for Western Sweden for Crown (small lift trucks) and Doosan (10t-16t machines).

EC mast trucks are also on Sany Germany's agenda, but this is not a priority for GTS. Laasko explains that in Sweden most ports use EC reach stackers to handle empties and a Sany Germany machine is slated to be available in the early part of 2015.
