Canaveral adds MHC

News-in-print

Port Canaveral, Florida, has taken delivery of a large Liebherr mobile harbour crane (model TCC-BOS 14000) to support its growing cargo business and particularly its involvement in the space industry.

The new crane was transported from Europe to the Canaveral Cargo Terminal (CCT), which is operated by Gulftainer USA, on board the vessel FRAUKE. The ship is operated by SAL Heavy Lift, which is part of the JumboSAL Alliance.

While the discharge process was complicated, it also ran very smoothly with a number of handling records broken. One of the crane pieces, for instance, weighed 680t and the boom was almost 350ft in length, both records for CCT. Gulftainer is now involved in the assembly process for the crane and it will also be responsible for operating the unit as it will be deployed in the CCT facility.

SAL’s FRAUKE is a type-176 heavy lift vessel with two portside-mounted 700t cranes (1,400t in twin-lift mode) and a single 350t crane mounted aft starboard.
