Ports of Helsinki and Tallinn win EU backing for TWIN-PORT VI Project
NewsThe Ports of Tallinn and Helsinki have received EU support for the TWIN-PORT VI project, continuing their collaboration from five previous TWIN-PORT initiatives.

“I am glad to say that the travel volumes have continued to recover well from the pandemic. In cargo transport, the near future will be challenging, but we anticipate a turn for the better next year,” said Ville Haapasaari, CEO of the Port of Helsinki.
Between January and September, total cargo traffic via the Port of Helsinki amounted to 10.4 Mt, down 9.1% year-on-year (although Q1-Q3 2022 had seen a record high in cargo volumes). Of this amount, 4.7t (-13.4%) was in import and 5.4 Mt (-8.8%) in exports.
Unitised cargo traffic totalled 8.7 Mt, which was 9.4% less than in the corresponding period of the previous year. Container traffic decreased by 12.3% in terms of tonnes, while the decrease in wheeled traffic was 8.1%.
The port’s liner passenger traffic recorded 6.9M passengers – 5.5M pax Helsinki-Tallinn ro-pax and 1.4M pax Helsinki-Stockholm ro-pax – from January to September, which is 15.4% more than in the corresponding period of 2022.
